Meet the Committee for 2025-2026

Aangenaam! Enchantez!

We would like to introduce ourselves as the Committee, governing the Society during the coming Academic Year. If you would like to get to know us better, make sure to come down to one of our events!

Seppe Staelens

Hi! I will be one of two co-Presidents for the coming year, and I am looking forward to my third year on the CUBS Committee. I am originally from Leuven, where I studied until age 23. I enjoy football, running, Spikeball and playing guitar. I am starting the third year of my PhD in Theoretical Physics, and I am loving my time in Cambridge. I hope to catch you soon and discuss Belgian beers!

Emily Nassen

Hi! I am Emily, a pharmacist trained at Ghent University and currently a third-year PhD student in Pharmacology at Christ’s College. When I'm not doing research, I enjoy playing squash, singing in a band, and serving as the enthusiastic co-President of CUBS. I'm excited to bring Belgian culture to Cambridge and to connect with fellow Belgians in the UK. There is nothing quite like promoting chocolate, waffles and beer consumption as cultural engagement. Looking forward to seeing you at one of our events soon!

Mathijs Clement

I’m Mathijs, Events officer of the Belgian Society, and I am excited to be part of the Belgian community in Cambridge for another year! Currently, I am in the third year of a PhD in Classics. When not in the Classics library, I enjoy (more) reading, hiking, and discussing the merits of brutalist architecture or the latest in British politics.

Aline Van Driessche

Hi! My name is Aline. Not quite sure what I wanted to do with my life, I ended up studying both Architecture and Artificial Intelligence in Leuven before joining the CDT AI for Environmental Risks in Cambridge. After two wonderful years in the UK, I thought it would be nice to reconnect with a bit more of home by joining the Belgian Society Committee as Junior Treasurer!

When I’m not working on my PhD (which might happen more often than it should 😅), you’ll find me rowing, crocheting with a cup of coffee, or travelling the world. I’m excited to meet more fellow Belgians across the Channel!

Ester Devlieghere

Hello! I’m from Antwerp and this is my first year in Cambridge. I’m doing an MPhil in Scientific Computing, combining my love for physics with high performance computing, and I’ll be handling all of CUBS’ social media this year. When I’m not behind my laptop, you might find me singing with the Waelrant Youth Choir, jumping rope, or sewing something new. I love spending time with friends, whether that’s on a walk, singing karaoke, or enjoying a cup of tea, though I’ll happily swap it for an IPA at the pub.
